Confirmation is a sacrament of Christian initiation. It is necessary for our on-going conversion. It is one of the three sacraments of initiation which also include Baptism and Eucharist. Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism but not initiation. We need all three sacraments of initiation; but Eucharist not Confirmation completes the initiation because it is an on-going journey. Confirmation is a seal with the Gift of the Spirit. Confirmation is not a sacrament of maturity. This is a misconception as if the adolescent is fully mature in their faith. Formation in faith is a lifelong process and does not end with Confirmation. St. Mark offers Confirmation to young people during 9th grade with class instruction and celebration of the sacrament. The Archdiocesan eligibility requirement is that the candidate has participated in a Religious Education program for the year prior as well as the year of preparation. An invitation to participate is sent to those eligible as registered students in the Religious Education program with an open invitation for those in Catholic schools.
