Proclaiming the Word

The image of food to refer to God’s Word has a strong foundation in the Hebrew Scriptures.  Moses tells the people   prior to their entering the land,  “It is not by bread alone that people live, but by all that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.”

In addition to being nourishing food, the Word in the liturgy is also a very personal communication from God to his people.  When the Sacred Scriptures are proclaimed in Church by the Lector, God himself speaks to his people and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel.

Those proclaiming the Word, the Lectors, are like good chefs who have done everything needed to present a nourishing meal.

Listen and be fulfilled!
