Our parish began a relationship with a sister parish in Haiti in the summer of 2012. Our sister parish is St. Joseph which is located in a rural, mountainous section of Gonaives called LaLomas. It is the 4th mission branching off from the Parish of St. Michael. Fittingly for St. Mark, St. Michael is the sister parish of St. John, Hydes!
Our Pastoral Associate and our Haiti Committee Chairperson first traveled to Haiti in July to find the right fit for our parish to serve in ministry.
We have since had an adult field team travel to develop strategies to best help the parish and school children of St. Joseph’s followed by a summer mission trip with Fr. Jerry and a mission team consisting of both adults and youth who provided a vacation bible school for the children.
It is a fruitful and rewarding relationship that offers an opportunity for each of their parishioners and our parishioners to pray for one another!
The pastor of St. Joseph’s is Fr. Jean Eveneau Antoine, has been able to visit our parish a few times with the resources provided by our parish. Please always remember Fr. Eveneau and the people of St. Joseph in your prayers.
