From the Pastor’s Desk (3/12/2017)

This Lent we begin at the beginning…..the story of the Garden of Eden in the Book of Genesis.  It seems so wonderful that the Church has us begin this season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving by recalling that initial decision where our parents rebelled against God.  We call it the Original Sin.  Remember God made everything perfect, including the first human beings—male and female made in the image and likeness of God.  But even though we had everything, Adam and Eve wanted more.  They could have everything in the garden except the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden. And, like us, those first humans wanted what was the one thing they could not have.

That sin continues to our very day.  Just tell us that we cannot have something and that is exactly what our heart and soul desires.  We need to remember two things:  We were created good and we were not satisfied.  This, of course, sets the stage for the coming of a Savior, Jesus Christ, later in time, to make up for our lack of obedience. Jesus will become obedient even unto death as the Scriptures tell us.  Watch these 40 days, as the plan of salvation unfolds.  But do more than just watch as a spectator—-Really enter into the story, these times of grace and reconciliation.
