God gives us gifts to be used. The parable this weekend may, at first, confuse us. Because it seems to make perfect sense that the man who is given one talent, would preserve it. After all, he knew the master was demanding. So, it seems, he makes the right choice in making sure he will not lose the talent by burying it.
The main point of the parable, however, is that gifts are given to be used. If we recoil out of laziness or fear, then we are not being good stewards of the blessings and the graces God has provided. Each of us has a work to do in this world and if we do not do it, it will not get done.
