From the Pastor’s Desk (1/21/18)

The stories in the Scriptures today seem so cut and dry. God asks Jonah to go to Ninevah and preach and the people repent.  Jesus calls Simon and Andrew, James and John and they leave their fishing nets and follow Him.  We do not make decisions in our lives that quickly nor does it seem the call of God is that immediate or overwhelming.  However, the key to this weekend in the urgency Paul displays in the Letter to the Corinthians.  He says, “time is running out.”  If we knew our time was running out we would certainly make decisions very quickly. We would not sit by and put off things for tomorrow.  But the problem is that we all think we have plenty of time even as we grow older.

Jesus wants us to hear the urgency of the Kingdom of God.  With trouble with North Korea, stirrings with Russia, problems in Baltimore City with cold schools, water mains and crime, we should all have that same sense of urgency. Something has to be done and it is up to us to do our part!
